Keeping Eagan’s Families Safe

There is no more important responsibility a mayor has than helping ensure everyone who lives in Eagan feels safe, secure, and respected. Mayor Maguire takes that responsibility personally — and the Eagan Police and Fire Departments reflect what happens when that commitment is consistent over time.
Eagan maintains one of the lowest violent crime rates in the Twin Cities metro — nearly ten times below the national average. Like communities across Minnesota, Eagan saw pandemic-related crime increases, but with a deliberate and effective response, violent and property crime have declined significantly, and the community policing model that has always defined the Eagan Police Department continues to earn exceptional trust.

94% of Eagan residents rate the EPD positively. 98% report feeling completely safe in their neighborhoods.
The Eagan Fire Department tells a similar story. In 2018, EFD completed a transition from a volunteer-based model to full-time staffing — a change that cut average response times nearly in half, from approximately 14 minutes to around 7 minutes, while dramatically expanding EMS capabilities. The result: a Class 1 ISO rating, the highest a fire department can achieve, which translates directly into lower fire insurance costs for Eagan homes and businesses.
97% of residents give EFD top marks.
