Letter: Eagan successful under Maguire

To the editor:

We moved to Eagan just shy of 30 years ago. It was one of the wisest moves we ever made. Twenty years of that time we have been led by Mayor Mike Maguire; four years previous he was on the City Council. Now I see that he is being challenged for election this year by Council Member Mike Supina, who has served for a half-dozen years.

I know both men fairly well. All the things that Supina stands for, according to his priorities, are things that Maguire has faced and handled effectively -€” fiscal responsibility, public safety, accessible streets, economic development. In addition to carrying us through the COVID pandemic, Maguire has seen some of our biggest corporations move their businesses elsewhere: Northwest Airlines (swallowed by Delta), which was replaced by the Minnesota Vikings and which put Eagan on national radar; Thomson-Reuters Corp., which moved to a smaller presence as did Blue Cross Blue Shield, but remained in Eagan. The large Thomson-Reuters acreage now sports an Amazon facility and others.
